The five usual causes, in order

When a code bounces, it’s almost always one of these, roughly in the order they crop up. Run through them top to bottom and you’ll usually find the culprit before the second guess:

1. Under the minimum. The code needs a bigger cart than you have. Add a low-cost item — straws, a spare lid — to clear the line.
2. A clearance item is excluded. Many codes skip vault and sale bottles. Pull the clearance piece out and try again.
3. A category or site limit. The code may be tied to tumblers, kids bottles, or to owalalife.com only. Check what it actually covers.

When the code really is dead
